SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An ex-employee of a popular loan company is accused of taking out $87,000 worth of loans in former customers names, according to Seneca police.

Police Chief John Covington said they first received a complaint about the local Always Money store on Nov. 13, 2013 when a man reported getting a letter in the mail saying he was behind in paying off a loan.

The victim told police when he went to the store to complain, management said there was an active loan in his name but when he looked at the documents, the information and signatures were wrong.

Covington said they received a similar complaint a few days later. That's when investigators reached out to Always Money's corporate office in Alabama.

The company's internal investigation revealed 60 potential victims, police said. The victims were former customers who had paid off previous loans and their information was used to create new, fraudulent loans, Covington said.

From mid-2011 to November, police said the fake loans generated about $87,000 for the suspect who was identified as an employee of the Seneca store.

Police said they were able to track down all of the victims, who all confirmed they had a loan within the past five years with Always Money.

Covington said Angela Simpson, 48, was arrested on 74 counts of financial identity fraud, 74 counts of forgery, and one count of breach of trust with fraudulent intent greater than $10,000.

He said she turned herself into police Thursday and resigned from the store. The investigation is ongoing.
