PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man was sentenced to 25 years for a 2011 hit-and-run where he attempted to flee to California following the wreck, the Pickens County solicitor announced on Friday.

Solicitor Walter Wilkins said 41-year-old Rufus Raiden III was convicted and sentenced by Judge G. Edward Welmaker for the hit and run that killed Ryan Crane on Dec. 10, 2011.

It was established at the trial that Raiden was driving his Chevy pickup on Highway 8 in Pickens County when he crossed the center line and struck Crane's car. Raiden then left the scene on foot without helping the victim or calling 911.

Crane died from blunt force trauma from the accident.

Wilkins said Raiden was arrested at a bus station in Columbia, SC, the next day where he was attempting to flee to California.

The solicitor's office said Raiden must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
