RUTHERFORDTON, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Rutherford County deputies said they have located a man accused of beating a local resident with a baseball bat then robbing him Saturday.

Deputies said the suspect, 29-year-old Gregory Eaves, entered the victim's Old US Highway 74 home in Ellenboro about 8:45 p.m.

Eaves attacked the victim with the bat, stole items from him then fled, deputies said.

Initially the victim denied medical help but a few hours later, deputies said he called 911 and was taken to the emergency room.

Deputies said the victim had a life-threatening head injury and was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville.

According to the sheriff's office, warrants were signed for Eaves arrest on the charges of attempted murder, first-degree burglary and larceny. About an hour after deputies said they were looking for Eaves they said they located and arrested him.
