MARION, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A pair has been charged after a series of thefts in McDowell County, the sheriff's office announced on Wednesday.

Investigators said 29-year-old Matthew Dwight Branch, of Nebo, who was wanted for felony possession of stolen goods, larceny and misdemeanor injury to personal property after several reported car thefts in the area, turned himself in to authorities on Monday.

A woman had already been taken into custody earlier in the week.

According to deputies, on Jan. 10, a Marion woman reported her 2007 Dodge Magnum stolen from her home on Mudcut Road, and an investigation led to Branch and Brenda Joyce Hicks, 40, being named as suspects.

Deputies said both were acquaintances of the victim.

The Dodge was later recovered but suffered extensive damage, the sheriff's office said.

In October, Branch is accused of stealing a 1984 Datsun pickup that a Marion man let him borrow, with the understanding it would be returned in a few hours, investigators said.

Branch has also been charged with stealing a truck and weed trimmer from the same Marion man.

The McDowell County Sheriff's Office said Hicks, of Marion, has already been taken into custody and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor damage to personal property, in connection to the theft of the Dodge Magnum.
