PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 39-year-old man was killed when a semi-truck struck his SUV on Interstate 10 near Marana just after midnight Tuesday.

The man was driving the SUV west when it swerved into the center median, rolled over the median's cables and stopped in the eastbound lanes about 12:40 a.m., an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer said.

The driver got out to help his two passengers when the semi struck the SUV, forcing it into the driver, the officer said. The driver was dead at the scene, the officer said.

The two passengers, a 69-year-old man and another man whose age was not known, were flown to the University of Arizona Medical Center, the officer said. Their conditions were not revealed.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

One eastbound lane of I-10 was closed until about 6 a.m.

No other information, including names, was immediately available.
