GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said a Greenville couple is behind bars after the man fell on top of his 19-day-old daughter, injuring her and requiring more than one trip to the hospital.

Greenville police said Stephen Simes, 20, and Anna Warren, 19, were both charged with child abuse.

According to arrest warrants, Warren was holding the couple's infant daughter when Simes fell on top of the baby on Jan. 22.

Police said the child had a black eye, facial bruising and broken bones.

The couple took the baby to the hospital the next day, according to Johnathan Bragg with the Greenville Police Department. He said the Department of Social Services became involved and the girl was hospitalized again on Jan. 29.

Simes and Warren were arrested and released from jail on Feb. 5. The child was placed in the state's custody, Bragg said.

No other details were released about the fall or the child's condition.
