JAMESTOWN, NC (AP) -

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory and top legislative leaders are gathering at McCrory's old high school to lay out a public education that will include higher pay for teachers.

A document obtained by The Associated Press says the plan will ensure all teachers make at least $33,000 next school year and $35,000 the next. The price tag would be roughly $200 million.

McCrory's office didn't provide details about Monday's event at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown except that there will be a major education policy announcement.

Lawmakers and their staffers have said the Republican leaders will discuss their plans for raising teacher salaries, now some of the lowest in the country.

House Speaker Thom Tillis, Senate leader Phil Berger and Lt. Gov. Dan Forest also plan to attend.
