Power companies across region prep for potential winter storm outages

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Blue Ridge Electric, Laurens Electric and Duke Energy spent Monday preparing their crews for potential power outages from the winter storm headed toward the region.

They said ice is the most worrisome problem because tree branches near power lines can freeze and break, falling onto them.

Representatives from the companies said they prepare all year for potential severe weather, so they feel they are prepared for the storm.

They also said heavy and wet snow can cause problems. They said their phone lines will remain open so anyone experiencing power outages can contact them.
