WAYNESVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A Waynesville man wanted after deputies said he failed to register as a sex offender turned himself in on Thursday.

Haywood County deputies said on Tuesday they were verifying sex offender addresses when they noticed Craig Michael Hawkins, 36, was not living at his last known registered address.

Deputies said a felony warrant has been issued for Hawkins for failing to register, as well as an assault and unpaid child support.

Hawkins turned himself in after being wanted on the charges of violating sex offender registration, assault on a female and past-due child support, according to deputies.

Deputies said he was jailed in lieu of $20,000 secured bond.
