CAMPOBELLO, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies said bare footprints in the snow led them to finding a victim of a reported domestic violence incident on Wednesday night.
According to the incident report, deputies were called to Landrum Mill Road in Campobello for a domestic violence call where they spoke with John Anton Joen, 69.
Joen said he got into a verbal argument with his girlfriend and during the argument she picked up a fork and stabbed him in the finger before she fled the house wearing only a coat and night gown, according to the report.
The report said the woman then took a vehicle covered in snow and tried to leave, but ended up running off the road into a field.
Deputies said when they walked down to the vehicle they saw bare footprints that led into a large field.
Deputies then followed the footprints for over a mile before they said the prints turned to glove pattern.
The victim was then located at a house after the homeowner said the woman was hiding in the back room.
Deputies then spoke with the woman who said she had been involved in an argument with Joen while they were lying in bed and he began choking her, according to the report.
The victim said she managed to get away before being assaulted again, prompting her to grab a fork and swing it at his hand that was holding her, the victim said in the report.
When asked about the glove pattern in the snow, the woman said she put gloves on her feet once they began to get numb.
Deputies said they observed multiple injuries on the victim.
Joen is charged with criminal domestic violence and is being held on a $3,000 bond at the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
