ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A puppy found in the snow during the region's historic winter storm is trying to recover after emergency surgery on Friday night.

Pax, a 9-week-old lab/shar-pei puppy, was only given a 50 percent chance of survival when he was brought to the Humane Society during the storm he was named after, according to the Asheville Humane Society.

The Human Society said Pax suffered from a severely ruptured intestine and needed emergency surgery.

A site was set up to raise money for the emergency surgery and raised $1,472, more than $200 over the $1,250 goal.

Pax survived the surgery and is expected to pull through.
