GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Upstate Red Cross is sending assistance to other parts of the state on Friday to help with the recovery from the winter storm.

The Red Cross said they have deployed four trained volunteers to assist in central and eastern South Carolina in shelter and food operations that were hit hard by the snow and ice.

"We will continue to address any needs here in the western Carolinas and support our neighboring regions in the central and eastern Carolinas," said Tony Reid, regional disaster and programs officer for the western Carolina region.

More disaster volunteers are on standby if they are needed to support the 30 Red Cross emergency shelters in the state.

The Red Cross said they have had 40 volunteers operating four emergency shelters this week, where 234 meals and more than 500 snacks were served.
