Fire kills one, injures five in Ruskin

RUSKIN, FL (WFLA) - Hillsborough County firefighters say a fire at a mobile home on the 400 block of 18th Street Southeast in Ruskin killed one person late Friday night.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Chip Shields said five other people have been injured. A medical helicopter was called to transport a critically injured person to Tampa General Hospital according to Shields. The other injured people were taken to TGH as well.

Shields said a man was critically injured with burns to his hands and face and a woman was critically injured from smoke inhalation. He said three children are recovering from some minor smoke inhalation.  Officials will not confirm if it was an adult or a child that was killed.

Shields said live power lines were down near the home and they initially hampered rescue efforts. TECO was called to deal with the power lines.
