ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A western North Carolina puppy that was rescued from the cold during last week's snowstorm is continuing to recover after undergoing lifesaving surgery.

The Asheville Humane Society said Pax was found injured and alone during the snowstorm. The 9-week-old Lab/Sharpei mix was brought into the shelter and then taken to REACH animal hospital on Feb. 12 to undergo surgery that he had a 50-50 chance of surviving.

Pax survived the surgery and is continuing to recover, according to the Humane Society.

A YouCaring page was set up to raise money for his surgery and the goal was exceeded. People who donated more than $1,500 for his care and the additional monies raised will go towards other special needs animals at the shelter.

The Humane Society has been posting updates on Pax, including a photo on Sunday of him exploring the leftover snow after having his stitches removed.

The shelter has not yet said when he may be ready for adoption as he continues to recover. Watch more on Pax's story and surgery below or here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aOQq-H4SGs
