NEW MILFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Workers in New Milford are trying to remove a freight train that went off the tracks Wednesday afternoon.

The train was traveling southbound through New Milford when it derailed in the area of Housatonic Avenue about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Amtrak officials said to be brought a crane in to help with the train's removal Thursday morning.

The train was put back on the tracks around 12:30 p.m.

The New Milford Police Department said it was going to remain on scene to assist with traffic. Housatonic Avenue was not closed as of Thursday afternoon.

Police said it was unclear if Housatonic Avenue in the area of the Boardman Road would be closed on Thursday.

The derailment was not a "hazard to traffic," police said.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation by the Housatonic Railroad Company.

Police said the train traveled approximately 10 feet off the track. It stopped before coming onto the roadway.

No injuries were reported.

There was also no hazardous materials on the train, police said.
