WOODRUFF, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters with several fire departments battled a large brush fire on Westmoreland Road near Woodruff on Thursday afternoon.

Dispatchers said crews from Clear Springs, Woodruff, Reidville, and Durbin Creek Fire Departments were called out to help douse the flames. The forestry service was also called in to assist, crews on scene said.

Dispatchers said the Clear Springs Fire Department originally received the call around 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters said the fire erupted near three homes in the area, but said none of them were damaged.

Firefighters said the blaze destroyed a field and a wooded area.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
