HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A pep rally will be held Friday morning to celebrate Hillsborough County's Teacher of the Year.

Patrick Boyko, of Jefferson High School, was awarded the honor at the Excellence in Education Awards at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa on Thursday night.

News Channel 8's own Gayle Sierens emceed the event.

The pep rally in Mr. Boyko's honor will start at 7:45 a.m. on Friday.

The other top finalists for Teacher of the Year were Luis Alvarez of Leto High, Karen Barmore of Gorrie Elementary, Reagan Lawrence of Hunter's Green Elementary, Amanda Morin of Walker Middle Magnet, and Leronya Vaughn-Dunmore, Sheehy Elementary
