A twin-engine aircraft carrying three people crashed at LaGrange-Callaway Airport at about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Officials confirmed all three people on board were killed in the crash. They were identified by LaGrange police as Vincent Rosetti, 60; Willy Lutz, 69; and Jeffrey Curtis, 53. All of the men were from Peachtree City.
The NTSB and the FAA are investigating the incident, the FAA said in a statement. The NTSB is expected on site Sunday, when they will begin their investigation to determine a probable cause.
A spokesman for the LaGrange Fire Department did not have any information about a possible cause of the crash, but people who were at the airport at the time of the incident said the pilot was coming in for a landing when he appeared to be surprised by something in the runway.
According to a witness, a single-seat glider plane was being pulled on the runway, forcing the incoming aircraft to make a quick maneuver to avoid a collision. The plane stalled out and went into a nose dive.
The wreckage clearly showed the front of the plane demolished from the head-on impact.
