ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies in Anderson County said K-9s were able to successfully locate a teen who ran away from a rest stop in Anderson County Sunday afternoon.

Lt. Sheila Cole said the 15-year-old girl ran into the wooded area behind the rest stop on I-85 South at mile marker 23 after an argument with her mother.

Cole said the girl and her mother were traveling to Georgia and stopped at the rest stop.

Cole said K-9 crews and helicopters were called in, and after about a 45-minute search, the dogs located the girl.

Cole said the area was very swampy and search crews said they were lucky they found the girl safe and as quickly as they did due to the hazardous conditions.

The girl was returned to her mother.
