Greenville Co. Schools schedules makeup days

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

After the Upstate was hit by two storms this winter, many school districts have been left with the task of determining when the missed schools days would be made up.

Greenville County Schools confirmed they will go ahead with the plan to use the potential makeup days already on the calendar.

Students will have school on Friday March 7, Monday March 10 and Friday June 6. Those dates were already on the district calendar in the event they were needed.

According to the district, state law that requires school districts to schedule three makeup days. So far, students attending Greenville County Schools have missed six days this year because of the weather.

A bill is currently working its way through the South Carolina Legislature that would provide districts the option to forgive five school days beyond the three scheduled makeup days.

Greenville County said they will determine what they will do with the rest of the missed days if and when the bill is approved. Read more about the bill here.

According to current state law, missed days beyond the three scheduled days must be made up by scheduling extra makeup days on Saturdays and/or extending school days.
