A Virginia man was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl at a Duncan hotel in 2010.

Daniel Spade, 36, was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor after a three day jury trial in Spartanburg County.

The crime was reported to the sheriff's office in April 2011, several months after the assault, according to Murray Glenn of the solicitor's office.

Glenn said the victim suffered a series of panic attacks after the assault before telling family members about the abuse.

The victim, who is now 7 years old, testified during the trial.

"The victim is my hero," Assistant Solicitor Jennifer Jordan said. "She courageously shared some of the worst moments of her life with jurors.

Spade must serve 80 percent of the 35-year sentence before he is eligible for release.
