GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greer police are warning residents to not leave their cars running outside of their homes in the morning to warm up after multiple vehicles have been stolen recently.

Police said they have received several reports of auto thefts and in all of the cases, the owners started the vehicle in the early morning hours to warm them up, but they left their cars unattended.

Owners went back inside their homes for a few minutes but when they returned, they discovered their cars gone, police said.

Lt. Eric Pressley with Greer police said they have had cars stolen across different areas of town, with no real pattern associated with specific roads or areas of the city.

He said the thefts happened from about 6:15 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Police are asking anyone with information on the thefts to call Detective Dale Arterburn at 864-848-5354 and if anyone sees anything suspicious, they're asked to call dispatch at 864-848-2151.
