GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville police officer was hospitalized and a man was charged with his attempted murder on Friday night, Greenville police said on their Facebook page.

Officer Johnathan Bragg said the officer was conducting a traffic stop on Fairforest Way for a speeding violation when the suspect refused to exit the vehicle and was not complying with the officer.

The suspect, James Asante Goodman, then put the vehicle in drive and the officer tried to stop him, Bragg said.

According to Bragg, the officer was forced to run alongside the vehicle for a short period of time before he fell to the ground.

Bragg said Goodman was taken into custody a shortly after the incident at the Lil Cricket on Mauldin Road.

Bragg said in a tweet on Friday night that the officer was "doing alright and is being released from the hospital."

Goodman has been charged with attempted murder and failure to stop resulting in bodily injury, according to the sheriff's office.
