POWDERSVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Wren High School baseball teams took a swing against childhood cancer Saturday afternoon in Anderson County.

Thirty-five members of the Hurricanes varsity, junior varsity and C-teams turned out to shave their heads as part of the Canes vs. Cancer fundraiser, according to head baseball coach Randy Thompson.

Thompson said the teams partnered with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to raise money to help children in South Carolina beat cancer.

Half of all proceeds will benefit national childhood cancer research, and the other half will help kids directly at GHS Children's Hospital, Thompson said.

The team has raised nearly $3,000 so far, but Thompson said the goal is to raise $5,000.
