GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Crews from multiple fire departments and the South Carolina Forestry Commission were called to the scene of a three alarm grass fire on Jordan Road in the Greer area Sunday morning, according to fire dispatchers.

Firefighters said crews from several Greenville and Spartanburg County departments were called out to the battle the blaze, which scorched roughly a dozen acres between Mount Lebanon Church Road and East Airport Road.

Firefighters with the Lake Cunningham Fire Department said they were called to the scene just after 11 a.m. and immediately called for other fire departments to assist when they arrived to find a field next to a home on fire.

By noon, firefighters said the flames had been extinguished and crews were continuing to douse hot spots in the area.

Firefighters said the fire started from embers left after a nearby homeowner improperly extinguished a fire that was burning Saturday night.

Firefighters said heavy winds fueled the flames.

Firefighters said it's unclear at this point whether charges will be filed.
