PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A Phoenix woman is on life support with a severe brain injury after her boyfriend, a married man, allegedly attacked her with a crowbar, police said.
The suspect, Alberto Perez, 53, of Phoenix, was booked into jail on one count of premeditated first-degree murder and one count of aggravated criminal damage.
Police said Perez has been married to his wife for about 22 years and has had a girlfriend for two years. He lives with his wife but does spend the night with his girlfriend, according to a court document.
On Feb. 25, Perez became upset when his wife did not return from the store quick enough and used a crowbar to break out the six windows in her car, according to probable cause statement.
The next day, Perez and his girlfriend argued, police said. At one point, when the woman turned to go to the bathroom, Perez walked up behind her with both of his hands on a crowbar and "swung the crowbar like a baseball bat," court paperwork stated. The victim was struck her in the head and knocked to the ground, police said.
Court documents stated that while the woman was on the ground, Perez "stood over her, hitting her two more times in the head."
Authorities said the victim is not expected to survive.
Perez was arrested Feb. 28. Police said they found the crowbar used in both incidents in the man's car.
