GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man has been charged after police said an officer saw him breaking into a car in Greenville on Feb. 28.

Police said an officer observed 38-year-old Donivan Roy breaking into the vehicle on Augusta Street and South Markley Street in downtown and she tried to make contact with him.

The man then began to resist the officer, police said.

More officers arrived on the scene and were able to subdue Roy and bring him to the Greenville County Detention Center, according to Officer Johnathan Bragg.

Bragg said while at the detention center an officer was taking Roy's handcuffs off and Roy knocked over the officer and began assaulting him.

Another officer helped get Roy off the officer and they were able to restrain him once again, Bragg said.

Roy is charged with three counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, one count of resisting arrest/assaulting a police officer and one count of disorderly conduct.
