COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -

The Republican Governor's Association is running a TV ad against South Carolina Sen. Vincent Sheheen that ties him to President Barack Obama and highlights his support of the federal health law.

In return, Sheheen called the ad that began airing statewide Monday hypocritical and misleading. The Camden Democrat released a letter to the association's chairman, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, noting the potential 2016 presidential candidate agreed to expand Medicaid eligibility in his state.

Sheheen has said Gov. Nikki Haley shows a lack of leadership by refusing to expand Medicaid eligibility under the federal law to an estimated 200,000 poor uninsured adults in South Carolina. He calls it foolish ideology.

The governors' group is using Sheheen's criticism to attack him.

A rematch between Haley and Sheheen is expected in November.
