Expect much colder temperatures for Tuesday morning as the day will start with temperatures in the mid 20s for the Upstate and around 20 in the mountains.
Areas east of Asheville in western North Carolina could see spots of black ice, and because of that threat a winter weather advisory has been issued until 9 a.m. Tuesday for several mountain counties including Buncombe, Henderson, McDowell and Mitchell counties. See all of the counties under the advisory here.
Tuesday will be breezy and cool, with highs only reaching the 40s area-wide during the afternoon. Wednesday will be milder, as temperatures will warm to near 60 under mostly sunny skies.
Rain moves back in on Thursday, and temperatures will drop back into the 40s for highs. The mountains could see brief freezing rain early Thursday.
