Woman loses cell phone with husband's last message

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A woman traveling across the country to carry out her husband's last wishes, lost her cell phone in Arizona.

She's driving around town in a pink SUV, with a pink teardrop trailer.

Five years ago, Alison Miller and her husband Chuck Dearing sold their New Jersey home, all of their belongings, and took off for their trip across the country. They called themselves "happily homeless."

"The last four years of traveling, we spent no more than two feet across from each other as we traveled," said Miller.

But Miller's story took a turn when her husband died last year of cancer.

"The day Chuck died, we were as passionately in love with one another as we had been 24-years-ago when we met," said Miller.

Though Miller lost her true love, her journey continues.

"When he asked me to start to return to our favorite places and scatter his cremains, in the back of his mind I know what he was doing was setting me on this road to go out and meet my grief head-on, because he knows that's the kind of woman I am," said Miller.

However, lately Miller has been just homeless, and not happy. She lost her cell phone containing all of her contacts from the road, along with her husband's last voice message.

"In his message he told me that he would never ever leave me, he would always be with me, and I would see him again," said Miller.

Someone has the cell phone. Miller and police have tracked it to several locations in the Valley, but so far she's had no luck finding it.

"As much determination as I've had with putting this, creating this new life without him, I'm just as determined to get that phone. Whatever it takes," said Miller.

Miller will be in the Phoenix area for a while, and she's not giving up.
