ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The family of the accused gunman who deputies say killed three people and injured one in Pelzer Wednesday said he was a meth user, but he would never kill.

Jared Williams, 34, is accused of shooting and killing three in a home on Law Street in Pelzer Wednesday afternoon, then leading deputies on a high speed chase before crashing into a home.

Williams was injured, but is now booked in the Anderson County jail. He and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Hope Phillips, are charged with murder.

"I don't think Jared was a bad person.  I think he's been doing a lot of drugs, a lot of meth and just can't seem to get no help for it," said Williams' mother Pamela Haynes.

His father, Steve Haynes, said authorities are to blame for not arresting Williams earlier.

"He was here trying to break in the house, why didn't they come get him?" said Steve Haynes. "If they would have did their job, he would have been in jail - none of this would have happened."

Williams grandfather spoke to FOX Carolina News Wednesday and painted a very different picture, though.

"I think he's the kind of guy that would have shot me," he said.

But Williams' brother Derek said the accused killer is a "teddy bear" and would never kill anyone.

"I won't believe it until he's proven guilty," said Derek Williams.

Jared Williams is expected to appear before a judge for a bond hearing sometime Friday. Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper and the Assistant 10th Circuit Solicitor will also hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Friday to give updates in the case.
