The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a motorcyclist died Thursday evening hours after a crash near Cherrydale.

Troopers said the crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, on Highway 253 at Poinsett Highway.

Troopers said a motorcycle ran into the back of car and the biker was thrown from the BMW bike. He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital but died after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler identified the motorcyclist as 29-year-old Matthew Burnett, of Taylors.

Fowler said Burnett was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine his cause of death.
