ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said a missing man who's believed to suffer from dementia was found in the woods by a child Sunday.

Barry Thrasher, 72, went missing at about 3 p.m. Canine units and technical rescue and aviation were called out to the search.

About four hours later, officials said a kid spotted the missing man coming out of the woods toward the road and notified someone on scene.

"I heard something moving and I climbed a big tree to see cause I didn't know if it was him or something else I saw him," said Tallin Magruder, the boy who spotted Thrasher. "He was belly crawling trying to climb up the hill, so I went over there and I asked him what his name was try to help him I just sat right them with him try to talk to him."

Thrasher was found about a quarter mile from his home.

Officials said Thrasher left his residence on Hunt Road to take a walk but didn't return in the usual 45 minutes he usually takes.

Thrasher was experiencing leg pain, but officials said he's expected to be OK.
