GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man accused of killing his former teacher was extradited on Monday afternoon to Greenville County, where his bond was denied.

Darrin Eskew was picked up by Greenville County deputies in Banks County, GA, where he was being held after deputies said the car he was driving was stopped along Interstate 85 going 35 mph.

Greenville County deputies said the vehicle belonged to Laurie Patton, Eskew's former teacher at Berea Middle School, who was found dead in a hotel room on March 3.

Deputy Jonathan Smith said the charges he was arrested on in Georgia were unrelated to the hotel death investigation.

On March 6, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office released warrants charging 21-year-old Eskew with murder, third-degree arson and grand larceny.

According to the warrants, Eskew is accused of strangling Patton and setting the hotel room on fire.

Pinciaro said Eskew and Patton got into a physical altercation when he strangled the victim and then set the motel room on fire. Then he stole Patton's vehicle and fled the scene, according to deputies.

Eskew stood before a magistrate judge Monday night where his bond was denied due to the severity of charges. The victim's family and suspect's family both appeared at the bond hearing.

After the bond hearing, the suspect's family told FOX Carolina off camera they want to see evidence that proves Eskew committed the crimes. They say they haven't been able to speak with him since before he was arrested.
