Thousands without power after high winds hit Upstate

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

High winds knocked out power for thousands of residents of the Upstate on Wednesday.

The Berea area of Greenville County was one of the hardest hit, reporting more than 1,200 customers without power at 8 p.m., according to Duke Energy's website.

Pelham Road at Interstate 85 was reporting almost 2,000 customers without power, which caused many restaurants and businesses in the area to shutdown early.

Pockets of outages were also reported throughout the Upstate including in: the Hoodtown area of Cherokee County,Wellford and Taylors.
