TUCSON, AZ (TNN) – Moondance Patio Homes is a small, four-street, 89-home community just off of Cortaro Road before it turns into Magee.  But its streets continue to pose a problem.

A few years back the county rated the neighborhood streets as a 40 on a scale of 100.  It has no sidewalks, so residents, many of them retirees, must dodge cracks and potholes.

Moondance Patio Homes was built around 1980, and the association president said Wednesday that the four roads have been patched over and over.  But in some places, they appear to be returning to soil.

The small neighborhood still handles the traffic from a larger one behind it, and a recent construction project on Cortaro diverted more traffic onto its roads.

Of course, crumbling pavement can be see all over Pima County, from Sunset just west of La Canada, to Massingale west from Thornydale.

The county likely has plenty of neighborhoods asking for new streets.  Moondance Patio Homes is writing letters to all county supervisors, not just their own, to get on the list for next year.

"It's the kind of thing where we've been trying to get this done for six years but we haven't been very aggressive about it.  And this year, we finally just went, 'you know, everybody's got bad roads but we need to take action and we need to do it as a group and there's about 20 people in here now who are writing letters," said Jean Johnson, president of the Moondance Patio Homes Association.

Calls to District 1 Supervisor Ally Miller, board chair Sharon Bronson, and the county transportation director Wednesday afternoon have not been returned.  But the association president said that they have responded to her to say that they received her info packet.

That's been going on for about six years though.

And she does not consider this to be coming from the friction between Miller and the other supervisors, because the association has been requesting this work so long.
