SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The man who killed an 8-year-old girl in 2009 will face the jury that convicted him and is expected to learn his fate Thursday.

Wednesday, the jury only took 20 minutes to convict Ricky Blackwell of murder in the death of Brooke Center, 8, of Chesnee five years ago. Prosecutors were pushing for the death penalty, while his attorney urged jurors to grant him life without the possibility of parole.

The sentencing phase is set to begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Spartanburg County Judicial Center.

Blackwell shot and killed the 8-year-old in his son-in-law's driveway. Investigators said the murder was to get revenge against his estranged wife, who was dating Brooke's father at the time.

Blackwell also tried to kill himself after shooting the girl.
