EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Pickens County deputies have found an inmate they said escaped while working detail Monday morning and he was only able to get about a mile away.
According to Chief Deputy Creed Hashe, deputies were helping Pickens County Stockade authorities look for Kyle Howes, 35, who fled from a work detail assignment near Old Stagecoach Road.
FOX Carolina's crew at the scene said several deputies were out on Old Stagecoach Road near Highway 8 looking for the inmate.
Howes was last seen wearing an orange colored shirt and blue jeans with a white stripe, is 5'11" tall, weighs about 200 pounds, has blond hair and blue eyes.
He was serving a 90-day sentence in an Easley city case for possession of drug paraphernalia, false information to police and false identification, Hashe said.
Howes was detained at the stockade since March 7 and was out on a litter crew when he fled about 9:30 a.m., Hashe said.
Then at 11 a.m., deputies said a homeowner on Sunset Drive called to report a suspicious person nearby. The home was only a mile away from the work detail. Deputies said Howes was found wearing the same clothes and had only gotten that far on foot.
Howes was arrested without incident and taken back to the sheriff's office where he will be charged with escape, Hashe said.
