WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Fair Play man has been charged after deputies said he took an envelope filled with cash that someone dropped at a convenience store.

According to the incident report, on Jan. 5, a woman reported to deputies that she dropped a bank envelope containing $500 on the floor of the Countryside Exxon on Cross Roads Drive near Seneca.

When the woman went back to the store the envelope and its contents were gone, the incident report said.

On Feb. 14, the Oconee County Sheriff's Office issued a press release looking for information on the person seen in surveillance photos at the scene.

Oconee County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Jimmy Watt said 46-year-old Daniel Alexander has been charged with petite larceny and booked into the detention center on March 15.

Alexander was released on a $2,130 surety bond.
