CHEROKEE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies searched for a man after he fled from officers on Interstate 85 on Tuesday, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller.

Mueller said Spartanburg deputies were trying to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on I-85 but the vehicle fled.

Spartanburg deputies contacted the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office as the vehicle headed  toward the county line driving recklessly, according to Mueller.

According to Lt. Tony Ivey of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, the deputy stopped his pursuit as the driver left the county.

Ivey said Cherokee County deputies located the vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to stop it.

Mueller said the driver then bailed on Love Springs Road at Thronbird Road, near the county line.

Cherokee County deputies brought K-9s to track the person through the woods which led to a paved road, Mueller said.

Mueller said it is believed the man got into a second vehicle at that location.

Dispatchers said the manhunt has been scaled back just after 4 p.m.
