HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

More than 30 gaming machines were seized at several locations in Haywood County on Wednesday, the sheriff's office announced.

Deputies Heidi Warren said search warrants were served to a business at 1190 Asheville Hwy. outside Canton and another at 1659 South Main St. in Waynesville, where they seized 34 electronic video gaming machines.

Warren said the sheriff's office began the investigation after receiving numerous complaints from citizens in the county concerning the negative impact they were having on the community.

"Regardless of personal feelings about gambling, North Carolina statutes deem these games to be illegal," said Waynesville Police Chief Bill Hollingsed.

"Law enforcement cannot pick and choose which laws to enforce," Hollingsed said.

No arrests have been made at this time, but deputies said individual cases are being forwarded to a grand jury.
