USGS upgrades Summerville earthquake to 3.0 magnitude quake

Officials with the United States Geological Survey have upgraded a Summerville earthquake that hit Wednesday evening from a 2.5 to a 3.0 magnitude quake.

According to officials, the earthquake was one mile southeast of Summerville and and two miles west of Ladson and hit around 6:38 p.m. on Wednesday.

A USGS report states that the quake was centered off Miles-Jamison Road in Summerville. According to USGS officials, the brunt of the earthquake's effects were felt in the area of the Kings Grant subdivision and Dorchester Road.

Residents in Summerville, Knightsville and Goose Creek reported, tweeted and called about the effects of the quake in their area.

Earlier the USGS, had originally reported the earthquake was a 2.4 magnitude quake, but have since released new information.
