GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Cherokee County Code Enforcement Officer was badly injured in an early morning two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, Sheriff Steve Mueller told FOX Carolina News.

Mueller said Officer Todd Coggins was rushed to Spartanburg Regional Hospital after the collision on Baker Road off Highway 29.

According to Mueller, Coggins condition was in critical but stable condition on Wednesday night.

Coggins was on the clock and in a county truck when the crash happened, Mueller said.

Highway Patrol said Coggins was headed south when he lost control on the bridge, crossed the center line and hit the other vehicle.

Troopers said the accident is under investigation.
