SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg deputies caught several people stealing from two different Goodwill donation boxes between Thursday and early Friday morning, according to incident reports.

On Thursday night, a deputy responded to the Goodwill donation box behind McDonald's on Boiling Springs Road, where he found a person attempting to load a treadmill into a Chevy Suburban, according to the incident report.

The reports said the woman claimed she was just going to take the treadmill home to see if it worked. The report stated a witness filmed the woman putting the treadmill and several other items into her car.

Early Friday morning, deputies saw a Dodge pickup at the Goodwill donation box on Highway 43 and Old Furnace Road.

When the deputy arrived, he found a woman inside the donation box handing things through the hatch to a man standing beside the truck, the report said.

According to the report, the woman said they thought the stuff in the Goodwill box was free.

The deputy on scene said he found a dresser, a mattress set and three trash bags full of clothes in the back of the truck.

The reports said the people involved were charged with petit larceny.
