Police: Man wanted after chase near Simpsonville Walmart

SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police are on the hunt for a man accused of driving his car towards an officer before leading him on a chase.

According to the report from the Simpsonville Police Dept., David Lawter was caught by Walmart loss prevention officers shoplifting from the store Friday.

Authorities said as they approached Lawter, he got into the car and drove towards an officer. 

A second officer followed the suspect along Interstate 385, where he was able to get a tag number to help identify the suspect.

Police said Lawter then led deputies toward Grandview Dr., where he drove at another officer before he led authorities through downtown Fountain Inn, where the chase ended and Lawter ran off.

Simpsonville Police obtained warrants for Lawter's arrest for attempted murder, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, driving under a suspended license, failure to stop for blue lights, habitual offender and shoplifting.
