A popular and iconic music venue in Greenville has announced plans to close its doors, temporarily, before re-opening in a new location later this year.

The Handlebar will close it's Stone Avenue location on April 30 and is set to re-open Sept. 15 at a new, undisclosed location, according to a post on the listening room's website.

"We're looking for a bigger, better location that's going to serve the market better," John Jeter said.

He's a co-owner of The Handlebar.

"It's more along the lines of the show is postponed, it's not canceled," Jeter said. "I think they're (fans) are going to say hmmm, that's interesting."

According to the post, the live music venue plans to book numerous artists while its doors are closed to build buzz once the new location is unveiled.

FOX Carolina learned Handlebar Enterprises, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in January.

The bar, restaurant and concert hall has been located at 304 East Stone Ave. since 2001 and was previously located on Mills Avenue when it first opened in 1994.

The final show scheduled at the Stone Avenue location is G. Love and Special Sauce with Greenville Jazz Collective on April 23. It is not yet known where the music venue plans to re-open.
