WALHALLA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A grandson's overnight stay at his grandfather's Seneca home turned into a theft of $4,000, according to deputies.

Oconee County deputies said the grandfather reported the money missing from his safe when he discovered it was gone.

The man told deputies the only other person who had been at the home besides his wife was his 41-year-old grandson Chad Dalton, of Central.

Deputies said the victim reported that Dalton left their home shortly after going into the basement to get some clothes, which is where the rusted safe was kept.

Dalton was arrested and charged with grand larceny on Friday.
