CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies have confirmed that human remains found in Clinton are those of a local woman missing since 2006.

Rebia Kinard said she got a call from investigators late Tuesday indicating they believe the remains may be those of Samantha Smith, 22.

On Nov. 5, 2006, Smith left her mobile home on Leila Street in downtown Clinton after her boyfriend said she had an argument. She had not been seen since.

The remains were found five miles from Smith's home Tuesday, next to the Clinton Public Safety firing range in the woods off Highway 308. Laurens County deputies said the remains appeared to have been there for several years.

An autopsy was completed Wednesday, confirming it was Smith. Kinard said police told her they would likely have to use dental records to identify the body.

Deputies are still asking anyone with information on the case to call the Laurens County Sheriff's Office at 864-984-4967 or Crime Stoppers at 864-68-CRIME.
