SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate father is accused of dropping his 11-week-old baby on his head but waiting several hours before seeking medical care, according to investigators.

Spartanburg County Deputies said they were called to the hospital after the infant was brought in with a skull fracture and brain injury.

Deputies said the baby was first taken to Greer Memorial before being transferred to Greenville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday.

After talking with the child's parents, 20-year-old Brandon Osment told investigators he was taking care of his son when he dropped him while feeding him, according to the incident report.

Deputies said Osment reported that the baby hit his head and a few hours later he gave him Tylenol and put ice on his injury. The report said the mother discovered the baby's head swollen and he could not keep his formula down so they took him to the hospital.

According to the report, Osment's statements were not consistent with the baby's injuries, he gave differing statements as to how the boy was injured and a significant amount of time passed before seeking medical treatment.

Osment was arrested Wednesday and charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Deputies said the extent of the child's brain injury is not yet not known.
