Greenville police said a mom is accused of injuring her 5-year-old son after he was found with bruises, carpet burns and a swollen eye among other injuries.

Police said the boy has bruised right eye, swollen left temple, scratches and bruises on his arms and back.

According to Alyssa Ferguson's arrest warrant, the boy said she dragged him down carpeted stairs then hit him multiple times with a belt on his back and legs.

The warrant stated Ferguson admitted to pulling the boy down the stairs and spanking him.

Ferguson, 23, was arrested and charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Johnathan Bragg with Greenville police said the boy's injuries were initially reported by the school resource officer at the child's school. He said the boy and his sibling were placed in Department of Social Services custody.
